Kanji Omikuji

Experience the magic of Japanese wisdom

"Sacred Lot" with Divine messages

Japanese Omikuji (御神籤) literally means "sacred lot" and was originally a way to receive divine guidance. The modern Omikuji at Shinto shrines today are paper slips that reveal what the future may hold for you - this Kanji Omikuji is a hybrid style of both ancient and modern ways.

Kanji (漢字) are symbolic characters used in Japan as one of three writing systems. Each character carries one or multiple meanings and conveys ideas through its form.

Story behind

On 9th November 2020, a sudden inspiration struck me.

I could not stop "letting out" this flood of energy, grabbed a Japanese calligraphy brush pen and began writing down every symbol that came to me onto card-shaped recycled paper.

When it finally subsided, I found myself holding 44 oracle cards, each inscribed with a Kanji character—Japanese symbolic words.

I had never planned to create them, nor did I fully understand what I was doing at the time. Some of the characters were not ones I would have chosen myself; they weren’t selected based on logic, personal preference, or any expectation of how others might perceive them.

Even the number - 44 - was not a conscious decision on my part.

Years later, as I embarked on my own journey of personal growth, I began using these cards as a tool to help others connect with themselves. They became a source of inspiration—a guiding presence not just for others, but for me as well.

With deep gratitude for my ability to communicate with the non-physical in higher realms, I channelled messages for each Kanji character and transformed them into Omikuji.

The inspiration for this unique Omikuji—a fusion of the sacred lot tradition and oracle cards—came to me in Copenhagen on 16th February 2025.

A lovely new friend had shown me her miniature Japanese Gacha vending machine, where people could receive surprise capsule items containing her creations.

It reminded me of the joy of randomness (which, as we know, is rarely truly random! :))—the delight of drawing something unexpected and taking it home. Traditional oracle cards are usually sold as complete sets and not designed for shared readings, but Omikuji can be!

With this, you can experience the essence of Japan’s ancient rituals blended with modern culture.

I sincerely look forward to sharing moments of joy and insight with you through this Kanji Omikuji.

With love,
Mayu
